NIGERIAN MOVIE CLINCHES AFRICAN FILM FESTIVAL PRIZE

A Nigerian movie charting a child soldier's struggles through the decade-long Sierra Leone civil war has won top prize at the African Film Festival, Fespaco, in Burkina Faso.

EZRA was named the winner at the closing ceremony on Saturday (03MAR07), and director NEWTON ADUAKA was visibly moved when he collected the biennial award, known as the Yennenga Stallion.

His movie beat stiff competition from Cameroonian entry LES SAIGNANTES (THOSE WHO BLEED), set 20 years into the future.

Ethiopian and Moroccan movies won the Best Short Film and the Best Documentary categories respectively.
