Actor JAMES McAVOY was left permanently scarred after his experiences filming THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND in war-torn and poverty-stricken Uganda.
Millions of people have been killed or uprooted by the conflict between government troops and the Lord's Resistance Army.
And the Scottish star was horrified by what he saw - including a desperate woman trying to kill her own baby by throwing it in front of moving traffic.
Speaking of a visit he made to a refugee camp near the Sudanese border - just hours after it had been devastated by fire - McAvoy says, "I was absolutely appalled. It was devastating. People are forced into a weird kind of f**king purgatory there's no work, nothing to do but drink.
"The level of crime is shockingly high and the level of rape is worse. It's like hell."
