O'JAYS SINGER SUES FORMER PARTNERS

SAMMY STRAIN, a longtime member of soul group THE O'JAYS, is suing his former partners and record label over unpaid royalties.

Strain alleges he never received any royalties from his 16 years with the group, during which time they recorded hits such as USED TO BE MY GIRL and FOREVER MINE.

His lawyer, CHARLES A WHITTIER, explains, "My client has been stabbed in the back for the love of money," referring to the title of The O'Jays' hit THE LOVE OF MONEY.

The $15 million (GBP7.7 million) lawsuit filed last week (ends23FEB07) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania also claims the band's founders EDDIE LEVERT and WALTER WILLIAMS conspired to deny Strain his share of the royalties.

It also names renowned R+B producers KENNY GAMBLE and LEON HUFF as defendants, along with their label Philadelphia International Records.

Strain replaced original member WILLIAM POWELL in 1976 and remained with the group until 1992.
