BRINKLEY UNDERGOES EMERGENCY SURGERY

Supermodel CHRISTIE BRINKLEY underwent an emergency operation on her back on Tuesday night (27FEB07) for an injury she incurred during a recent ski trip.

The exact nature of the 53-year-old's injuries was not disclosed, but she is expected to be out of hospital by the end of the week (02MAR07).

Brinkley's representative, FRAN CURTIS, tells American publication People, "She needed surgery, and thank God she got it. She sounds great. She's feeling a million times better."

Curtis says Brinkley's injury had worsened in the last few days and that the biggest inconvenience caused by the surgery was missing out on one of her daughter's gigs.

ALEXA RAY JOEL, 21, whose father is Brinkley's former husband BILLY JOEL, was scheduled to play on Wednesday night (28FEB07) at the Mercury Lounge in Lower Manhattan.

Alexa adds, "I wish that my mom could be there for the show but the most important thing right now is for her to get well."
