ARKIN SCORES THE FIRST OSCAR NIGHT SURPRISE

ALAN ARKIN made it a weekend to remember at the Oscars last night (25FEB07) when he followed up his Independent Spirit Award win with an Academy Award.

Alan Arkin as Grandpa, Paul Dano as Dwayne, Steve Carell as Frank, Greg Kinnear as Richard, Abigail Breslin as Olive and Toni Collette as Sheryl in 'Little Miss Sunshine'

Many experts thought Arkin would lose to Oscars favourite EDDIE MURPHY in the Best Supporting Actor category, but his role as a curmudgeon in LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE gave him the edge over the competition at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

On Saturday (24FEB07), the CATCH 22 star scored the first of his weekend double at the Spirit Awards in Santa Monica, California.
