San Francisco, California police have launched an investigation into the whereabouts of a replica of the MALTESE FALCON used in HUMPHREY BOGART's cult 1941 movie after it was stolen from a diner.
A thief reportedly stole the movie memorabilia item overnight on Saturday (10-11FEB07) from John's Grill and now the owners are offering a $25,000 (GBP12,800) reward for the recovery of the plaster bird.
As well as the famous bird, thieves also made off with signed copies of the DASHIELL HAMMETT novel, from which the Bogart film was adapted.
John's Grill itself also plays a large part in the history of Maltese Falcon - it's the restaurant both Hammett and his fictional detective SAM SPADE, played by Bogart, frequented.
