DOHERTY SEARCHED IN REHAB

Staff at PETE DOHERTY's rehab clinic confiscated his guitar and amplifier to check they weren't being used to smuggle in drugs.

Carers at the Capio Nightingale Hospital in north London were alerted when the addict rocker asked for the instruments to be delivered to him at the centre - where he is battling addictions to heroin and crack cocaine.

Nothing was found - but a staff member explains the measure: "People try any trick to smuggle in a supply so staff took no chances.

"Pete's a mess. He's using the name ALEXANDER in the hospital but I'm sure the other patients know who he is."

Doherty was yesterday (1FEB07) reported to have been dumped by lover KATE MOSS after a newspaper revealed he had taken drugs in a Thai hostel just two days after the pair 'married' in a beach blessing.
