JACKY CHEUNG'S MAID FREED TO APPEAL

The maid jailed for stealing photographs from Hong Kong pop star JACKY CHEUNG has been freed pending an appeal of her sentence.

PRESLYN-SAGA CATACUTAN, 30, was jailed for six months in December (06) after being convicted on two charges of theft.

The judge said she had stolen the snaps "with commercial value in mind".

But Filipina Catucutan insists she was a fan of the singer and wanted to keep the pictures as souvenirs.

She has been released on 5,000 Hong Kong dollars ($640/GBP325) bail.

At the time of her sentencing Cheung was criticised in the media for pressing charges against Catacutan, in what many considered a petty matter.
