REVERED POLISH JOURNALIST RYSZARD KAPUSCINSKI DIES

Revered Polish journalist and author RYSZARD KAPUSCINSKI died this week (begs22JAN07) after a long battle with illness. He was 74.

Kapuscinski made his name as the Polish Press Agency's only foreign correspondent in Africa in the 1960s and he travelled the continent extensively, reporting on a number of conflicts.

He also spent time in Asia in South America and witnessed a total of 27 coups and revolutions.

He went on to write THE EMPEROR, an internationally acclaimed account of the fall of iconic Ethiopian leader HAILE SELASSIE and a number of poetry volumes.
