CLUELESS star ELIZA DONOVAN has gone public with her eating disorder battle that almost wrecked her big break in the cult teen movie.
The flame-haired actress, who played ditsy AMBER in the 1995 film, sat down with US TV counsellor DR KEITH ALBOM recently to tell all about her teenage anorexia.
She said, "When I got out of high school and I was living in Manhattan and I was really trying to succeed as an actress and trying to get an agent... I was very frustrated and I had no control of anything and I felt like I was over the hill at, like, 18.
"I was having lunch with a friend and I was expressing my frustration at everything and I literally pushed the plate away from me on the table.
"In doing that I felt this sense of power and, all of a sudden, I realised that I could do this thing (give up food)."
But her eating disorder took on a life of its own and almost ended her movie career. It landed her in hospital at the start of her big break on Clueless.
She added, "I thought I was fat. You have fittings before you start, and, by the time I wore the clothing, some of it was too big.
"I went into hospital during the middle of that film. It was a very difficult time."
