MORETTI RESIGNS FROM TURIN FILM FESTIVAL

Italian filmmaker NANNI MORETTI has quit as artistic director of the Turin Film Festival after occupying the position for just two days.

Moretti resigned after discovering some festival organisers were opposed to his appointment.

The director - whose credits include the 2001 Cannes Palme d'Or winner THE SON'S ROOM - has released a statement that reads, "With great pain I give up the job and leave you to your... personal grudges.

"There has been talk of organising two competing festivals in the same city, someone suggested a lack of ethics and some have even said that I would be an instrument for politicians to strangle the festival's independence."
