British police have briefed SIR PAUL McCARTNEY's estranged wife HEATHER MILLS on a potential threat to her safety as her divorce battle with the former BEATLE intensifies.
Sussex Police have informed Mills that officers in Merseyside, northern England, uncovered a "non-specific threat" and McCartney was also told about the incident.
Mills recently spoke of receiving death threats in the wake of her split from McCartney earlier this year (06).
Sussex Police Force spokesperson BERNIE MURPHY says, " Police can confirm that Mills was spoken to by officers and was fully informed of all the information, including details of the names of individuals involved. In addition, Mills' estranged husband was also spoken to.
"Local officers have been fully briefed regarding the circumstances and provision has been made for an immediate police response should this be necessary."
McCartney and Mills split up in May after four years of marriage and began divorce proceedings in July.
