VELVET UNDERGROUND LP SELLS FOR THOUSANDS

LATEST: An early studio recording by THE VELVET UNDERGROUND has been sold on auction website eBay for a closing bid of $155,401 (GBP79,692).

The album was purchased four years ago (02) at a Manhattan, New York flea market and is believed to be the definitive version of the band's debut album.

The buyer's real name is still a mystery and is only identified by the eBay screen name "mechadaddy".

WARREN HILL, a collector from Montreal, Canada, bought the record in September 2002, which turned out to be an in-studio acetate made during Velvet Underground's first recording over four days in April 1966 at New York's Scepter Studios.

The record reportedly is only one of two in existence, the other is privately owned, with rumours circulating about the owner's identity.

The nine-track LP features different mixes of the songs found on the commercially released record including HEROIN, I'M WAITING FOR THE MAN, EUROPEAN SON and VENUS IN FURS.
