BRITNEY'S HOMEWORK A FLOP AT AUCTION

BRITNEY SPEARS' homework isn't worth what it used to be - the pop star's handwritten book report on a translation of SOPHOCLES' ANTIGONE sold for just $200 (GBP102.50) at auction on Monday (04DEC06).

The odd item - one of 170 lots of Spears memorabilia - didn't even make it's pre-sale estimate ($500/GBP256) when it went under the hammer at Christie's in New York.

Spears completed the report when she was a teenager in junior high school. Auctioneer HELEN HALL had higher expectation for Britney's book report: "We sold another piece of Britney Spears' homework a couple of years back and that made over $1,000."

All proceeds from the sale of will benefit the pop star's Britney Spears Foundation.
