BRAND TO HOST NEXT YEAR'S BRIT AWARDS

Comedian RUSSELL BRAND is to host next year's Brit Awards (14FEB07) - and has vowed to return the music show to its controversial roots.

The British music award ceremony made the headlines in 1996 after former PULP frontman JARVIS COCKER mooned MICHAEL JACKSON - and again in 2000 when ROBBIE WILLIAMS publicly challenged music rival LIAM GALLAGHER to a fight.

But the show's producers have tried to shy away from controversy in recent years. However, Brand has pledged to ensure the show returns to its rock and roll roots.

He says, "I will do my level best to tear it up. Once it starts it is all in my hands. It is going to be like the rock and roll Brits of old, returned to the controlled mayhem and danger.

"I am going to be the ringleader at this carnivale of mayhem."
