Former Chilean dictator AUGUSTO PINOCHET has been rushed to a Santiago hospital after suffering a heart attack.
The 91-year-old was admitted to the city's Military Hospital early this morning (03DEC06) in a "grave but stable condition," according to medical officials, but one of his doctors, JUAN IGNACIO VERGARA, said Pinochet's life was "in danger".
He has undergone an angioplasty - a procedure designed to widen a narrowed or totally obstructed blood vessel.
The retired general is currently under house arrest over the disappearance of two of the thousands of people who went missing under his 17-year regime from 1973.
