SPIELBERG LAUNCHES VIDEO DIARY PROGRAMME TO HEAL MIDDLE EAST RIFT

STEVEN SPIELBERG has launched a new video diary programme with the aim of bringing Israelis and Palestinians closer together.

The MUNICH director has donated camera equipment to the project and paid for training which will help successful applicants document their everyday lives.

Film-makers on opposite sides of the divide will then swap their material in an effort to foster understanding.

Spielberg says, "The young people will be busy filming instead of throwing firebombs, and they will be able to see the other sides of life and learn that we are all human beings and want to live in peace.

"I want people to make cinema not war."
