CAT STEVENS STILL FEARS 'JOURNALISTIC MALICE'

The artist formerly known as CAT STEVENS is so wary of the press he records every interview he conducts for fear of being misquoted.

CAT STEVENS aka YUSUF ISLAM

Muslim convert YUSUF ISLAM, who devoted his life to the religion in 1978, successfully sued British newspapers The Sun and The Sunday Times for libel in October 2004, after he was named on a 'no-fly' list and denied entry into the US in September (04).

Islam also caused controversy in the late 1980s when he was misinterpreted by journalists who reported he favoured a call for the death of THE SATANIC VERSES author SALMAN RUSHDIE.

The FATHER AND SON star says, "I had a few occasions when I had a brush with the press and it was very harsh, very hostile to my conversion.

"I can't help but think that somewhere along the line there's somebody who has a position, and perhaps something to guard and protect, that stops people from knowing about Islam."
