LATEST: SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has finally given in to pressure from his local council and agreed to demolish his beloved log cabin at the centre of a planning permission dispute.
The singer, 64, built the secluded hideaway in 2002 and has been trying to secure retrospective planning permission from Rother District Council this year (06).
After being informed the cabin was a blight on an area of outstanding natural beauty, McCartney offered to bulldoze a detached house and two barns instead.
But a planning committee meeting heard this week (begs06NOV06) the former BEATLE has changed his mind. He promises to demolish cabin - subject to a legal agreement being drawn up - and submit a retrospective planning application which would let him to keep a lakeside pavilion on the Woodlands estate in Peasmarsh, East Sussex, instead.
His proposition will be debated at the next meeting of the Rother District Planning Committee next month (07DEC06).
