MUSICIAN TOPPLES REPUBLICAN STALWART

Ex-rocker JOHN HALL has kicked longtime Republican lawmaker SUE KELLY out of office in America's Congressional race.

Hall, who wrote the 1970s pop tunes STILL THE ONE and DANCE WITH ME with his group ORLEANS, had his shock victory for the Democratic Party confirmed in upstate New York yesterday (08NOV06).

His election campaign had included benefits by a string of musicians including BONNIE RAITT, STEVE EARLE, PETE SEEGER and JACKSON BROWNE.

Hall said, "When I make a record, it's 110 per cent, when I run for office, it's 110 per cent."

He closed his victory speech by singing STEVEN VAN ZANDT's song I AM A PATRIOT.
