SPEARS TIMED SPLIT TO SAVE MONEY

Pop star BRITNEY SPEARS filed for divorce from KEVIN FEDERLINE on Monday (06NOV06) to avoid having to pay him any extra money in their divorce settlement.

The TOXIC star filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court two years and one month from the official date of their marriage on 6 October, 2004.

According to Fox News legal analysts, the couple's pre-nup reportedly carried increased payouts to Federline for every year of their marriage.

Sources say this type of agreement usually has 30-day grace period and that 6 November (06) would have been Spears' last chance to get out of paying a third year of alimony in the settlement.

Federline would only be able to claim half of Spears' earnings during their brief marriage and not lay claim on any future income from a potential pop comeback.
