Nobel Prize-winning writer NADINE GORDIMER was attacked and locked in a storeroom on Thursday (26OCT06), while thieves burgled her Johannesburg, South Africa home.
THE CONSERVATIONIST author, who counts NELSON MANDELA as a close friend, was assaulted when she refused to hand over her wedding ring, but did not sustain serious injuries.
According to police, three men overpowered Gordimer and her maid, and the attackers took cash and jewellery and before fleeing the 1974 Booker Prize winner's home.
Both woman are recovering from the ordeal, which happened in broad daylight.
