61 COUNTRIES COMPETE FOR OSCAR'S FOREIGN FILM CROWN

A record 61 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language Film category for the 79th Academy Awards next year (07).

Among the countries competing for an Oscar are Bangladesh, Algeria, Thailand, Korea, Croatia and Bolivia.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan makes its debut in the Oscar running - SERGEI BODROV's NOMAD is the first film from that nation considered by the Oscar judges.

The five nominations for the 79th Academy Awards will be announced on 23 January (06). The Oscars will be presented on 25 February (07) at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
