CHER MAKES MILLIONS AUCTIONING OFF PERSONAL ITEMS

LATEST: An auction of more than 700 items belonging to singer and actress CHER has raised over $3.5 million (GBP1.9 million), far exceeding initial expectations.

Devoted fans snapped up Cher's possessions at the two-day sale held in Los Angeles in conjunction with Julien's Auctions and Sotheby's.

The items were originally expected to bring in between $1.4 million - $1.6 million (GBP777,000-GBP888,000).

Julien's Auctions President DARREN JULIEN said, "Today every single lot found a buyer, a true testament to Cher's fan base and longevity as a performer and star."

The single most expensive lot was for the 60-year-old star's black 2005 Bentley, which went for $204,000 (GBP113,000), while the 'Gothic Revival' brass bed from her Malibu, California home went for $84,000 (GBP47,000).

The top selling costume was a BOB MACKIE-designed rock 'n' roll outfit that was sold for $60,000 (GBP33,000), up to 20 times its estimate of $2,000 (GBP1,100) to $3,000 (GBP1,700).

The buyer was BRIGITTE POUBLON, wife of US singer and actor BOBBY SHERMAN, who once appeared with Cher on the SONNY AND CHER show.

Part of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to charity and Cher will use some of the proceeds to redecorate her Malibu mansion with an Asian-Zen theme.
