RYMAN AUDITORIUM HONOURED AS BIRTHPLACE OF BLUEGRASS

The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee has officially been named the Birthplace Of Bluegrass at a ceremony attended by banjo player EARL SCRUGGS and RICKY SKAGGS.

A new historical marker was placed in front of the venue at the event on Friday (29SEP06).

BILL MONROE played a gig at the Grand Ol' Opry at the Ryman Auditorium in December 1945 with his backing band MONROE'S BLUEGRASS BOYS, including Scruggs - widely thought to be the group who kickstarted the bluegrass genre.
