Veteran blues guitarist HENRY 'MULE' TOWNSEND has died of pulmonary edema. He was 96.
Townsend, whose career spanned eight decades, passed away in Grafton, Wisconsin, on Sunday (24SEP06).
He was born in Shelby, Mississippi, grew up in Cairo, Illinois, before moving to St Louis, Missouri, at the age of nine, where he remained for much of his career.
In 1985, Townsend was honoured with a National Heritage Award for his contribution to art.
He is survived by four children and seven grandchildren.
