MCCARTNEY: 'LINDA'S DEATH STOPPED MY WORK'

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY thought he'd never work again after losing wife LINDA to breast cancer in 1998.

The former BEATLES star admits he struggled to write music following the loss, but credits his positive outlook with helping him return to the industry.

He says, "I had to take a year out just to grieve. It was a very, very emotional, very sad time for me, obviously, losing Linda.

"Life beats you down occasionally and when it does, you just have to not try.

"But I am the eternal optimist. No matter how rough it gets, there's always light somewhere. The rest of the sky may be cloudy, but that little bit of blue draws me on.

McCartney has since dedicated an instrumental track on his fourth classical album, ECCE COR MEUM, to his late wife and hopes the moving piece will help others deal with their grief too.

He says, "I've played it to some people and said nothing, and I've seen them welling up.

"It's an amazing phenomenon how chords can be... sad."
