HATHAWAY TOOK BROKEBACK ROLE TO FACE HER FEARS

Actress ANNE HATHAWAY accepted her role in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN because it terrified her, and she wanted to challenge herself.

The 23-year-old believes choosing diverse characters, such as JAKE GYLLENHAAL's aggressive Brokeback wife LUREEN NEWSOME, will help her to grow as an actress.

She says, "My acting philosophy is there has to be at least one element that scares the bejesus out of me!

"And I try to do the complete opposite of the last thing I did, just so I can grow as an actress.

"I'm more proud of (Brokeback Mountain) than anything I've ever created. I was ready to do something completely different.

"I did Brokeback Mountain not to typecast myself; I got into it to be an actress, to get out of the comfort zone and scare the s**t out of myself."
