FATHER OF ANNA NICOLE'S BABY GOES PUBLIC

The photojournalist claiming to be the father of ANNA NICOLE SMITH's newborn baby girl is going public with details of the busty blonde's pregnancy in the hope it will prompt her to acknowledge him officially.

LARRY BIRKHEAD came forward with claims he was the father back in June (06) - when few people actually knew that Smith was pregnant.

But she has never named the baby's father and Birkhead fears she never will - and he cannot understand why his ex-lover refused to tell all that he's the dad.

As Smith continues to mourn the loss of her 20-year-old son DANIEL, who died on 3 September (06) just three days after the birth of his baby sister, Birkhead has agreed to tell all about the early months of his ex's pregnancy on US TV.

The photojournalist will appear on news shows ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT and THE INSIDER later today (18SEP06), revealing that the last time he spoke to Smith was the day before she gave birth.

Birkhead tells the shows, "Somebody's got some explaining to do."

But he admits he still loves the busty blonde because, "How can you not love the mother of your child?"

Speaking of the early days of the pregnancy - when he was still with Smith, Birkhead reveals he went out of his way to show the mother-to-be that he was good father material.

He adds, "I've been involved in, like, planning. Early on, I was involved in selecting possible baby names. I've went (sic) to the doctor, seen the ultrasounds, I've listened for the heartbeat. I've put my head on the mother's tummy and listened for the baby."
