A source says, "She is unbelievably nervous and worried about performing in Moscow next week. Because of that she wants to get home as soon as possible and doesn't want to be away a minute more than is necessary."

LATEST: Pop star JESSICA SIMPSON has issued a statement, through ROB SHUTER, insisting she didn't fire him as her publicist.

Media reports yesterday (07SEPT06) indicated that her longtime publicist had been sacked after the disastrous coverage of her budding relationship with JOHN MAYER.

Both People and Us Weekly magazines ran cover stories suggesting the pair were dating with Simpson quoted as saying, "I'm in love!"

Simpson has since denied that she is seeing Mayer and insists they are just friends.

The A PUBLIC AFFAIR singer sent a statement to news website TMZ.com, who first reported the alleged firing, via Shuter, saying, "I did not fire Rob Shuter, he is a great publicist and a great friend."

Shuter would not clarify whether or not he still represents the pop star or if they have gone their separate ways.

LEE'S DARK LYRICS LEFT HER MUM CONSIDERING COUNSELING

EVANESCENCE star AMY LEE's mother was so worried about the dark lyrics her daughter penned when she first started songwriting, she suggested the teen try counseling.

The goth-rock queen admits her early attempts at poetry and lyrics were sinister and must have terrified her poor mother.

She explains, "She heard me writing music in my room when I was a teenager. She was like, 'What are you singing?' and I read her some lyrics.

"She said, 'I wonder if you need to talk to somebody."

Lee reveals her moody temperament and that chat with her mother left her feeling she should self-medicate herself.

The FALLEN singer says, "I thought about taking antidepressants, but I think that takes your soul away."

But Lee now realises her early angst was a reaction to the death of her three-year-old sister when she was six.

She adds, "I was getting a perspective that most people don't get until they're adults. I started writing dramatic poetry when I was 10 - it's all about eternity and loneliness."

Critics have mauled Italian tenor ANDREA BOCELLI's performances in New York city last week, calling them ''careless'' and ''unconvincing''.

Blind Bocelli, who has sold out his concert dates in New York, is slated as a singer who is still living off his fame without having any real vocal talent.

New York Times critic BERNARD HOLLAND says, "Bocelli is not a very good singer. The tone is rasping, thin and in general, poorly supported. Even the most modest upward movement thins it even more, signalling what appears to be the onset of strangulation.

"To his credit, Mr Bocelli sings mostly in tune. But his phrasing tends towards carelessness and rhythmic jumble, and the little barks and husky vocal expletives that are the mother's milk of Italian tenordom sound faded and unconvincing. The diction is not clear."

A review from the Associated Press (AP) also slates Bocelli, proclaiming, "Passion? Yes. Power? No."

The discovery has left Cowell and fellow judges SHARON OSBOURNE and LOUIS WALSH seething.

A spokesperson for the show says, "They only found out about this in the past few days and they are livid.

"Ashley and the boys have hoodwinked the judges, the production company, everybody. Ashley admitted he had a management deal with Avenue and we are investigating. We will take whatever action is necessary.

The couple have been trying for a brother or sister for five-year-old son WOODY, but their lack of success is starting to worry the couple - and if they find they are unable to conceive they will consider IVF.

Ball, who married the DJ - also known as FATBOY SLIM - in 1999, says, "We've been trying for another baby, but it's just not happening. At the moment we're playing the game of 'let's pretend we don't want one' in the hope we'll suddenly surprise ourselves by getting pregnant. But we've just not been lucky yet - and it's not through lack of trying.

"We haven't got that far down the line yet (IVF). I'm only 35 so we still have a few more years. We're still hoping we will be able to have another baby naturally."

The California Governor said of Republican BONNIE GARCIA, "black blood" mixed with "Latino blood" equals "hot".

Schwarzenegger has apologised, saying, "Anyone out there that feels offended by these comments, I just want to say I'm sorry. The fact is that if I would hear this kind of comments in my house, by my kids, I would be upset, and today, when I read it in the papers ... It made me cringe."

Garcia, whose parents are from Puerto Rico, insists there was no need for Schwarzenegger to apologise, saying she referred to herself as a "hot-blooded Latina" all the time.

But state Treasurer PHIL ANGELIDES said the governor "used language that is deeply offensive to all Californians".

Democrat assemblyman MERVYN DYMALLY, who chairs the state Legislative Black Caucus, said the Governor's comments were "usual political banter. We do this all the time."

ROBIN HOOD TAPES RETURNED

Stolen tapes of new British TV show ROBIN HOOD have been recovered by Hungarian police.

The tapes were taken while the GBP8 million ($14 million) series was being filmed on location in the town of Fot, near Budapest, prompting desperate appeals for the tapes to be returned.

Two people were reported to have been arrested on Friday (08SEP06).

A spokesperson for producers Tiger Aspect says, "The Hungarian police have recovered the property stolen from the Robin Hood production site in Budapest.

"Obviously investigations are not complete and therefore we do not wish to make any further comment about an ongoing Hungarian enquiry."

The 13-part drama series, which has been filmed in high definition, is set to be screened from next month (NOV06), and on BBC America, who part-financed it, next year (07).

A BBC spokeswoman said, "We understand that the majority of the material has been recovered."

50 CENT ARRESTED FOR TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS

Rapper 50 CENT was arrested on Friday (08SEPT06) in New York City after making an unsafe lane change in his Lamborghini.

The IN DA CLUB singer, real name CURTIS JACKSON, was arrested at around 2.00 pm in Manhattan.

Law enforcement officials in an unmarked police car pulled the star over in his silver Lamborghini and then handcuffed him in front of several witnesses.

Because of the crowd that began gathering around the scene, authorities determined it to be an unsafe situation and transported him to a police station down the street.

Police officers issued four tickets - for making an unsafe lane change, driving with an expired licence, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle.

According to New York Police Department spokesperson Detective MADELYNE GALINDO the rapper was not fingerprinted or photographed.

She says she believes an officer drove the Lamborghini to the police station.

The car was then relinquished to one of 50 Cent's friends, who promptly arrived with the car's registration and a valid driver's licence.

Galindo tells American publication People that the entire ordeal was over before 3 pm.
