Conga drum master MIGUEL 'ANGA' DIAZ died suddenly at his home in Spain on Wednesday (09AUG06). He was 45.
The Cuban-born musician recently moved to San Sadurni d'Anoia, a small town near Barcelona, in search of a peaceful life.
His body was found by one of his students after he suffered a heart attack.
In the 1990s, as a percussionist with Cuba's leading progressive Afro-Cuban band IRAKERE, Diaz advanced the five-drum technique first developed by his predecessor, the late JORGE 'EL NINO' ALFONSO.
A funeral service was held on Friday (11AUG06) in Spain and Diaz's ashes will be returned to Cuba.
