ELTON IGNORES HOMOPHOBIC PRESS

SIR ELTON JOHN laughs off homophobic jokes about his sexuality in the British media.

The bespectacled singer, 59, wasn't surprised when British newspaper The Sun published a story regarding his civil partnership ceremony with DAVID FURNISH last December (05) with the double entendre: 'Elton takes David up the aisle'.

John says, "A lot of people have found it offensive, but I wasn't here.

"I'd already gone (to Venice) by then. It's par for the course. What would you expect from them?

"Come on, you've got to have a sense of humour, for Christ's sake."

John insists the newspaper headlines couldn't be worse than his time as chairman of English soccer team Watford FC, when the fans were less than keen to accept his lifestyle.

He recalls, "There used to be a chant at Watford when I went: 'Don't sit down while Elton's around or you might get a penis up your a**e' (sung to the tune of MY OLD MAN SAID FOLLOW THE VAN). I don't think you can get much better than that."
