JAMES BOND MOVIE SET SERIOUSLY DAMAGED BY FIRE

A large fire on the set of new JAMES BOND film CASINO ROYALE caused serious damage on Sunday (30JUL06), leaving the legendary Pinewood Studios near London in ''a complete mess''.

The blaze caused the roof of a sound stage, which had been transformed into a replica of Venice, to cave in. Three people were in the studio at the time of the fire. Nobody was hurt.

The studio said in a statement that filming for the Bond production had been completed and the sets were in the process of being removed.

The Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said several cylinders of flammable gas exploded during the blaze, which took eight fire engines to extinguish.

Fire department spokesperson FRASER PEARSON said at the time, "It is just a complete mess. I would say the whole building has been damaged by the fire. It is still smoking quite badly."

Casino Royale is the first Bond film featuring actor DANIEL CRAIG in the title role, replacing previous 007 favourite PIERCE BROSNAN.
