PAVAROTTI: 'I'M NOT FINISHED YET'

Opera superstar LUCIANO PAVAROTTI has assured fans he'll complete his Farewell Tour before making his retirement official, despite his ongoing battles with failing health.

The tenor was forced to postpone concerts this summer (06) for a second time after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The latest health crisis led many to believe they'd never get the chance to see the heavyweight opera star perform again, but he insists he isn't ready to let fans down and cancel the shows he's still slated to perform.

Speaking exclusively to Italian newspaper La Stampa yesterday (24JUL06), he said, "I have every intention of returning to singing.

"I want to finish my tour. I can't give precise dates because I'll have to discuss it with the doctors, but I think I'll start again next year."

Following his surgery earlier this month (JUL06), Pavarotti's representatives insist the tenor's cancer has been contained and doctors were able to surgically remove it.

Pavarotti told the newspaper in a phone interview he had returned to his New York home to recover from the surgery after being released from hospital a few hours earlier.

He added, "I'm finally at home... finally out of the hospital. What can I say? It's a marvelous feeling."

The tenor hopes to return to his native Italy later this summer (06) to continue his recovery.
