NOW! THAT'S WHAT I CALL BEATING YORKE TO NUMBER ONE

The latest installment of US hits compilation NOW! THAT'S WHAT I CALL MUSIC has wrecked RADIOHEAD star THOM YORKE's dreams of taking his debut solo album to number one in America.

Now 22 beat Yorke's THE ERASER to the top spot on the new Billboard chart by a staggering 300,000 sales, according to compilers Nielsen SoundScan.

The hits compilation, which sold 398,000 copies in its opening week, is the ninth Now album to debut at number one in America. Now 22 is the 19th consecutive Now album to reach the top three in the US.

Yorke's debut was expected to compete for the top spot but it fell well short with just 98,000 sales. The Eraser did have one bright spot - the album debuted at number one on the Top Rock Albums chart.

Rapper PIMP C scored an impressive debut at number three with PIMPALATION, which earned him his first number one on the Top R+B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Meanwhile, JOHNNY CASH's final recording, AMERICAN V: A HUNDRED HIGHWAYS, dropped to number six on the new chart after debuting at the top last week (12JUL06).

And British rockers MUSE scored their best-selling week in America - the cult group's BLACK HOLES + REVELATIONS debuted at number nine with first week sales of 48,000.

The group's last US album, ABSOLUTION, debuted at 107 on the Billboard chart in 2004.
