ALLEN: 'COCAINE CELEBRATION COMMENT WAS A JOKE'

British singer LILY ALLEN has played down the furore surrounding her recent comment to journalists she would celebrate securing the UK number one single spot by taking cocaine.

The 21-year-old, whose debut release SMILE is enjoying its second week as Britain's most popular track, is outspoken about her drug experiences and took her first ecstasy tablet aged just 13.

When asked by reporters what she would do after learning the triumphant news, Allen replied "gak", which is a slang term for cocaine.

But the star actually went out and got drunk.

She explains, "I kind of knew how that was going to be taken when I said it.

"I only found out what the word 'gak' meant that day and I found it amusing, so I kept saying it.

"I got trashed on cider - that's how I celebrated."
