DEGENERES TURNS SERIOUS TO COMBAT AIDS

Funny woman ELLEN DeGENERES turned serious with girlfriend PORTIA DI ROSSI at the weekend (15JUL06) when they co-hosted a star-studded Hollywood African AIDS fundraiser.

Another celebrity couple, HEATH LEDGER and MICHELLE WILLIAMS, CHRISTINA RICCI and former ER star NOAH WYLE were among the guests, who helped to raise $400,000 (GBP222,200) at the charity poolside party.

DeGeneres was thrilled with the cash raised and insists it will all go to aiding the health crisis in Uganda: "Every 15 seconds a child is orphaned by AIDS.

"These people are losing their homes, they have no medical supplies."
