Former BEATLE SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is refusing to perform at a charity gala because of its links to his estranged wife HEATHER MILLS.
McCartney was due to reprise his role at the Adopt-A-Minefield annual gala dinner but, after splitting from crusading former model Mills in May (06), he pulled out of the awkward engagement.
Last year (05) the singer helped raise a staggering $3.06 million (GBP1.7 million) for Mills' charity, which supports the United Nations' efforts to remove landmines across the world.
However, in a statement McCartney says, "While I continue to be committed to Adopt-A-Minefield and its critical mission, given the current circumstances, I will not be able to attend."
Other stars, including MICHAEL DOUGLAS, JACK NICHOLSON and ORLANDO BLOOM, have already reportedly paid $900 (GBP500) for tickets to see McCartney perform at the event.
