CROOK'S COMEDY NIGHTMARE

Comedy actor MACKENZIE CROOK endured a rocky start to showbiz - he was pelted with offal and nearly maimed by a pint glass during an early comedy gig.

The British PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN star always knew he would make it as a stand-up comic, but his audiences weren't always sympathetic.

He says, "I spent periods on the dole (state benefits).

"For two or three years my only source of income was stand-up.

"I remember an early gig. The act before me had done a magic act using raw liver.

"The audience started chucking leftover offal at me and a pint glass smashed on the wall behind my head.

"That was really rough. It took me a week to get over it."
