HICKS HATES HIT SONG

AMERICAN IDOL winner TAYLOR HICKS hates his first hit single DO I MAKE YOU PROUD? because it makes him feel like a karaoke singer.

The 29-year-old silver-haired star wanted to release a song he had written before he won the competition, but was over-ruled.

His long-time producer, WILL SMITH of Baldwin Entertainment in Nashville, Tennessee, tells American publication In Touch, "He wants to be known as a songwriter, not a karaoke singer."

Smith says Hicks wanted to release THE FALL, a song he wrote and recorded about breaking up with a girlfriend four years ago.

He adds, "Even the lyric, 'I climbed the ladder, you took the fall' fits with the American Idol contest.

"I'm not trying to slam the show, but every important critic has slammed the goofy single, and, by extension, Taylor."

Smith is now trying to make his case for The Fall by releasing the song to radio stations and letting Hicks' fans hear it for themselves."
