STREEP'S ANGER AT FASHION INDUSTRY

Actress MERYL STREEP has slammed the fashion industry as a menace for the pressure it puts on young girls to look good.

Streep, who stars as a bitchy women's magazine editor in latest film THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, worries her three daughters face constant pressure to look like models.

And she's furious the unrealistic images the industry projects do nothing for girls' self-esteem.

The 52-year-old says, "They all think there is something dreadfully wrong with how they look. Maybe that's a function of the human condition but I think it is reinforced by fashion magazines.

"I know how inadequate they made me feel, so I've always tried to tell them that it's what they do, not how they look that counts. That's hard in a culture which only values you for how you look."
