HANNAH PRAISES POLICE OFFICIALS WHO ARRESTED HER
Actress DARYL HANNAH has praised police officials who arrested and cited her following her 23-day farm protest in Los Angeles this week (beg12JUN06) - because they showed her the utmost respect.
The BLADE RUNNER star was booked on suspicion of resisting a court order on Tuesday (13JUN06) after she refused to leave a strip of urban farmland, South Central Farm, which had been reclaimed by its owner.
For much of her protest, Hannah climbed a walnut tree and fired off press statements and support to farmers who have cultivated the land since the late 1980s through a bull horn.
Firefighters were forced to physically removed Hannah and her fellow protestors from the tree when they arrived to evict the activists.
But Hannah admits her first-ever arrest was a peaceful and respectful affair - and she never felt threatened by police officials.
She says, "I knew what I was doing was taking a principled stand... There was a very strange and unexpected sense of calm that came to me while I was coming down (from the tree).
"If you take a principled stand, the Sheriff's department will treat you with a lot of respect. They don't treat you like a criminal."
The actress plans to fight on to save the farm from being levelled for development.
