LATEST: Scottish internet sensation SANDI THOM has rubbished reports her UK number one hit was the result of a frenzied marketing campaign which included bribing web-users to increase her MySpace figures.

The newcomer, who is just the fourth female to top the UK charts with a self-written and performed debut, rocketed to fame after broadcasting live performances from her London basement on the internet.

It was claimed more than 100,000 fans watched the webcasts, but critics have argued the figure was inflated by her record company to push sales.

They now insist the star also employed underhand tactics - including bribing - to make her look popular on social networking sites.

However, her record label manager CRAIG LOGAN insists, "Street teams were not used to increase her MySpace figures with bribes of free copies of the album.

"The only guerilla marketing tactics employed were when the flyer was sent out to over one million email addresses, which is hardly revolutionary.

"Nor is the use of ads on MySpace. So, those are some facts within the fiction.
