HUGH GRANT and JUDE LAW are in the running to play British wine buff extraordinaire STEVEN SPURRIER in a movie re-telling of the 1976 Paris, France drink-off that shocked the world.
Spurrier, the consultant editor of wine magazine Decanter, was among those who helped organise the famous 'blind' tasting, in which Californian grapes beat the best in the world under the noses of Europe's top wine experts.
The great grape shock has since been documented in GEORGE TABER's book JUDGMENT OF PARIS: CALIFORNIA VS FRANCE, which is to be turned into a new movie by moguls at Clear Pictures Entertainment.
Spurrier adds, "I have spoken with the production company and I understand that Hugh Grant or Jude Law could play me - what an extraordinary idea."
Spurrier recently restaged the 1976 tasting, in which California - against all expectations - beat the French again.
