KASABIAN RECORD SOCCER SONG AFTERALL

Acclaimed British rockers KASABIAN have recorded a song for the FIFA World Cup, despite rejecting the chance to perform the English Football Association's official tune.

The CLUB FOOT stars have covered DAVID BOWIE's HEROES for British network ITV1's coverage of the tournament - and the music legend is a huge fan of their interpretation.

Kasabian frontman TOM MEIGHAN says, "We never wanted to do the official song - it was too much of a burden.

"But it is wonderful to know our song will be part of the World Cup soundtrack. Bowie has heard it and told me it's like the VELVET UNDERGROUND - but heavier."

Indie stars EMBRACE took on the mantle of the official song and their WORLD AT YOUR FEET is expected to storm the UK charts this weekend (10-11JUN06).
