KANYE AND LUDACRIS WIN COPYRIGHT BATTLE

LATEST: Hip-hop stars KANYE WEST and LUDACRIS are celebrating after a New York court ruled their song STAND UP did not infringe the copyright of a New Jersey group.

I.O.F. (IT'S ONLY FAMILY) alleged the rappers had breached copyright laws, by copying their 2001 track STRAIGHT LIKE THAT.

Ludacris and West insisted they had never heard the track, with Ludacris insisting, "The only thoughts and ideas I borrow from are those of my own."

After 10 jurors returned a not guilty verdict in Manhattan District Court yesterday (01JUN06), Ludacris declared, "I hope the plaintiffs enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame.

"This whole experience is proof to me of why I will always fight for what I believe in."

Plaintiff JEFF BILLINGSLEY, owner of Cobble One Records, plans to appeal the verdict, saying, "We were at a severe disadvantage."
