EASTWOOD'S BLOODY BATTLES TO SET RECORD STRAIGHT

CLINT EASTWOOD has promised his upcoming films about the Pacific War will be balanced with soldiers' experiences from both the American and Japanese sides being accurately portrayed.

FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS and RED SUN, BLACK SAND focus on the vicious battle for the remote Island of Iwo Jima in 1945, which claimed 29,000 lives.

The Oscar-winner director wants to undo decades of Hollywood film-making which has, until now, represented the Japanese combatants in a one-dimensional manner.

Eastwood says, "I think those soldiers deserve a certain amount of respect.

"I feel terrible for both sides in that war and in all wars. A lot of innocent people get sacrificed.

"It's not about winning or losing, but mostly about the interrupted lives of young people. These men deserve to be seen, and heard from."
