PEARL JAM's new headquarters could face demolition if the city of Seattle, Washington goes ahead with plans to build a garbage dump on the site.
The band moved into their new offices in a warehouse in December (05) but learned of the city's plans the following month (JAN06).
Pearl Jam spokeswoman NICOLE VANDENBERG says, "We were surprised and saddened by the news on many levels."
Residents in the area, who have worked for years to clean up the neighbourhood, hope the band's high-profile will help in their fight to keep the dump from being constructed.
Neighbourhood resident JOHN BENNETT says, "(Lead singer) EDDIE VEDDER's for the little guy, and Pearl Jam would have a lot of clout."
Vandenberg did not comment on whether the band would take a position in the fight.
The project has not been finalised by the Seattle city council.
