DJ BESHO SET FOR SUCCESS WITH AFGHAN RAP

Afghan rapper DJ BESHO has created a brand of rap music to unite a nation torn by war.

The hip-hop star's lyrics hit out against the violence, drugs and poverty that has riddled his country.

The 28-year-old says his new style of music is inspired by Afghanistan, explaining, "The people love me here, they know my feeling, they know my hip-hop because I do it in my own language."

The mainstream success of Besho's mission is aided by a sponsorship deal with the local television station, Tolo TV.

He explains, "My message is peace, fight against drugs. People must try to learn something for this country. It's very, very important .The right way for the new generation is to go to school, of course."

Despite his success among young fans, he upset President HAMID KARZAI when he turned up an hour later to their arranged meeting - and found the premier had already left.

He recalls, "It was really not good. I thought maybe he was waiting for me but no."
