BEACH BOYS SUED

American pop veterans THE BEACH BOYS are being countersued by a private collector accused of stealing memorabilia of the 1960s stars.

ROY SCIACCA insists he paid for the souvenirs at liquidation sales in the 1980s, and he is seeking $20 million (GBP10.5 million) damages or the right to sell the memorabilia.

In January (06), the PET SOUNDS rockers sued Sciacca and ALLAN GABA, alleging the pair stole the items from a Los Angeles warehouse.

Gaba was accused of pinching 13 to 25 cases of Beach Boys treasures which had been stored at his north Hollywood premises without their permission.

Both men were alleged to have violated the band's copyright, trademark and 'right of publicity' by subsequently attempting to auction the items off. The sale was halted half an hour before it was due to start.

Gaba fumes, "I love the Beach Boys. It disgusts me how far this has gone."

ED McPHERSON, the Beach Boys' attorney, has dismissed Sciacca's claims, saying, "It's unfortunate there are people out there that take advantage of situations like this."
